The Quantum Interface
As discussed earlier, we have presumed that the interface between psyche
and soma, between body and mind if you will, is a fractal at the quantum level.
At this level our observable is the psychic mass. The wave function for psychic
mass would be,
Qp(:/p , t)
which
is to say, the psychic wave function, Qp,
is simply a function of psychic mass and time. We can revise one form of the
famous Schrodinger equation of quantum mechanics to look something like
where
the H with a “hat” over it is called the Hamiltonian
operator, i is an imaginary number (i.e., the square root of minus one), h
is Planck’s constant written with a
bar over it emphasize that it addresses circular frequency. This has been
measured to be 1.055 x 10-27 erg-sec (Treiman, 1999). The last term
is a partial derivative of the wave function with respect to time. This equation
says that psychic mass exists within a range of possibilities until we measure
it, whereupon its wave function will collapse it to a single value.
Because the Schrodinger equation contains an imaginary number, physicists
often use what is called a complex
conjugate and denote it by the value’s symbol together with an asterisk.
For example if m is used for mass, and mr and mi are the
real and imaginary parts of the mass respectively, then the complex conjugate of
mass would be m* where m*=mr - imi. The product of mass
and its complex conjugate would simply be the sum of the squares of its real and
imaginary parts. The famous quantum physicist, Max Born, discovered that the
wave function multiplied by its complex conjugate yields the probability
distribution, sometimes called the probability density. Therefore, it is not too
farfetched to formulate an equation for the angle of consciousness, 2
as
We are always conscious at some angle 2
so we can normalize the above equation to look like

To measure psychic mass, we need to define a suitable operator, Â, which
is called the eigenstate of the psychic mass. The average measurable would then
be calculated from
where
the bracketed A is the expected value or average observed value of the psychic
mass.
